Mount Rushmore - Day 1

We got up early and said goodbye to Grandma.  We had a nice stay and it was sad to leave.  We headed off for a 10+ hour drive to South Dakota.

We drove through Wyoming.  To be honest, it is not a pretty drive at all.  As we got toward the eastern part, it was prettier.  But it made for a long trip when there's not much to look at.

Once we were in South Dakota, the scenery changed and it was gorgeous.  Green everywhere.  It was cool and rainy.

We are staying in a bed and breakfast in Keystone.  It is GORGEOUS here.  You sit out on the back deck and you see Mount Rushmore.  It's 2 miles away.  The rooms are great.  We have a big room with 2 beds, a couch, a bathroom and a jacuzzi.  The couple that owns this place does an amazing job.  Marilyn, the owner even plans an itinerary for you based on your interests so you can get the most out of your visit.  They serve a homemade dessert on the balcony every evening at 9, as the monument gets lit up.  Tonight we had homemade chocolate chip cookies with coffee and milk.

We sat on the balcony for an hour or so talking to the other guests, a couple from Great Britain and a couple from, of all places, Hawaii, near where I used to live.  I am so happy we are here.

If you want a place to stay, look up Buffalo Rock Lodge in Keystone.  They have a website.
